Keeping Israel and the Jewish population separate from the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine is extremely important to countering anti-Semitism. It is easy to let the frustration over the violent acts that took place in the area turn into generalizations about Jews as a people group, but that would be deeply unfair and dangerous.
Netanyahu responsible for his policies
Israel's political decisions and military actions, including the widespread bombing and killing of thousands of Palestinians, are the government's responsibility. Netanyahu and his government act based on their political goals, and their actions do not represent Jewish people worldwide. Likewise, Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people. Most Palestinians are civilians who are badly affected by the conflict, just like the Jewish civilians living in Israel. Civilians suffer on both sides.
Jews and Israel should not be mixed up
We must be careful to distinguish between the actions of people and the actions of states or extremist groups. Jews as a people group have nothing to do with decisions made by Israel's leadership, any more than Palestinian civilians bear responsibility for Hamas' acts of terror. When we conflate these differences, we create a dangerous breeding ground for hatred and violence, where innocent individuals suffer.
Solidarity the basis
By holding on to solidarity and understanding, we can avoid further spreading hatred between different groups. It is crucial to stand up against all forms of anti-Semitism while working for a just peace solution between Israel and Palestine, which recognizes both Israelis' and Palestinians' right to security and self-determination.
If the West funds support for Palestine to become a democratic industrial state, that country and Israel can live in peace side by side.
👍👍
The truly bizarre thing is that large parts of the Swedish establishment claim that criticism of Israel's government IS an attack on all Jews. That Netanyahu claims that is just what you can expect from that man, but why do Swedish politicians do that? And leading Swedish media? Anyone have a theory?
Is it just because they have nothing else to come up with and have to resort to anything, no matter how bad?
Agree with.
