Finance Minister Anders Borg believes that Swedish agriculture will go under. To the newspaper Country he says the following:
"- I don't think that Swedish agriculture will survive as an industry."
Later in the interview, Borg explains how successful the Italian farmer is. In comparison with its Swedish counterpart:
"Look at Italy, there the farmer has moved up the value chain."
Borg also argues that the agricultural industry should invest in small-scale farming and that locally produced meat should stay in local markets. In Aftonbladet, Borg says that Matlandet Sweden was a successful venture. Furthermore, Borg says:
"- I obviously believe in Swedish food production. A viable rural area requires that food producers can increase the added value, for example through local produce, and retain more of the value in production."
Bottom line: Anders Borg has doomed Swedish agriculture, although he obviously believes that it has a future. Does he know what he's talking about or does he like to pretend?
