New book shows that economists created austerity policies to recreate and preserve class divisions after World War I. The author is Clara Mattei from the Institute for New Economic Thinking . In the film below, Clara discusses her new book “ The Capital Order: How Economists Invented Austerity and Paved the Way to Fascism ”. The state had to intervene in the economy in such a way as to win World War I that class divisions were equalized. The people began to see that another, more equal society was possible. The authorities wanted to put an end to this through austerity policies. The fact that austerity policies also paved the way for fascism was a price the authorities were prepared to pay.
