The poor should eat less. At the same time, 500,000 people in Sweden cannot afford basic expenses and certainly not greedflation. In 2022, 20% of households lacked a buffer for unforeseen expenses. But the right-wing solution to inflation is for low-income earners to reduce their consumption of electricity, heating and food. Therefore, many Swedes now have to lower the temperature at home, queue for cheap food and look for deposits in garbage cans.
Politicians are urging people to lower their standard of living, instead of coming up with the real solution, which would be for the state to combine progressive spending with sufficient deficits to get production and redistribution going again. Because the right-wing's austerity policies are leading to an increasingly difficult fight against the bills. Although the right-wing parties promised dearly and sacredly to solve the situation, they broke this promise after the election. The government's autumn budget included cuts of 130 billion kronor by 2025 in welfare. The right-wing says the poor should eat less. This will worsen unemployment. When low-income earners (often unemployed and on sick leave) cannot afford to consume, purchasing power decreases. This is the basis for employment.
Even parts of the left and S have been too weak to demand a push to speed up wage formation, redistribution and taxes as well as deficits.
