A majority of the Swedish people are in favor of non-alignment and against NATO membership. according to DN/Ipsos. This is sound politics of the common man. If we go to war, we risk having enemies and not only in the form of other states but also in the form of terrorism.
We can make a more positive and long-term contribution to world development by offering peaceful aid and a safe haven for asylum seekers.
In most warring countries, the powers that be make sure that it is the poor who die in battle. The risk of this has increased when we abolished the conscription army. So when citizens talk about Sweden having to be in solidarity and kill and die for the sake of other countries, they are not primarily referring to the children of the rich having to do this.
Already during the Great Power Era in Sweden, our kings experienced how bitter it was to enter into military alliances and be drawn into the war interests of other countries. Swedish soldiers had to pay bitterly with their lives and limbs in large numbers for the sake of these alliances.
Sweden makes more use of helping by peaceful means and offering asylum to refugees. With our freedom of alliance, Sweden has, despite several world wars, saved the lives of Swedish soldiers and its population for more than 200 years. Let's continue on this peaceful winning concept!
