Truly, The Social Democrats must deliver frihet, work, residence and social mobility– not just managing neoliberalism say three Social Democrats. So I say that we need a system shift back to welfare with a humane refugee policy, labor immigration to the shortages, improved pensioner, a green transition, free of charge dental care, drug and healthcare, restored social insurances etc.
It rumbles among the grass roots
Because people are tired of empty promises, cuts. Yes, many who voted right did not do so because they became right - but because they felt let down. When security disappears, when housing does not come, healthcare fails and jobs cannot be found, then people protest. Yes, we must understand that, not condemn it.
The false disaster capitalism
Disaster capitalism – the idea that emerged after the oil crises of the 1970s – was based on a myth: that we “must save in the barns"and that the state cannot afford it. But that is not true. Sweden has a own currency. Because the state can always finance investments in welfare, climate and justice – as long as we have the resources and the will. Money should not be piled up – we should use it for the good of the people.
Everyone with
Well, it requires us to reestablish the alliance between working class and middle class. Because that is where the strength of democracy lies. When nurses, librarians, construction workers, electricians, cultural workers and small business owners stand side by side – then we can once again build a society where everyone can afford to live, grow and care for others.
Tax and deficit
With progressive taxation and wise use of fiat currency we can create jobs, build housing, improve welfare and save the climate. It's not about asking for too much – but about demanding what we already have a right to.
Now a new public home is needed.
A sustainable, equal and humane society – where no one is left out.
Maybe they will do this… if we stop appealing to them as some kind of paternalistic authority – “if the Tsar only knew how much we suffer” – and instead start taking care of ourselves.
That was what was needed already in 1932. Without fifteen years of incessant popular mobilization (see e.g. https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strejk#/media/Fil:Arbetsinst%C3%A4llelser_Sverige_1903-2005.svg) even Per Albin had not managed to accomplish anything.
Franklin Roosevelt used to say to courting opinion: I agree with you. But keep the pressure up so I can do it too.
Politicians are compromisers. They can only implement as much as people are prepared to fight for. Not a bit more.
