I often put forward the idea of expanding the public sector to reduce unemployment. This would not cost that much, a Riksdag investigation has shown, because at the same time unemployment costs and ill-health rates would probably also decrease.
Critics have said that but wouldn't that lead to people getting paid to do nothing at work?
First of all, I don't think so. The public sector is so understaffed and has so many responsibilities that more people in this sector would only make the workload reasonable.
Second, there is no intrinsic value in hard work. Hard work is only for the capitalists to get an obscene amount of money to spend on luxury consumption.
Thirdly, the constant streamlining and long-term outsourcing means that more and more people are released into unemployment. Capital cannot and does not want to employ all of these in new companies or with new tasks. They want a desperate corps of unemployed to push down wages and working conditions. All these freed people cause dissatisfaction among the population, often get sick, some become desperate and vote for SD. Many suffer in silence.
If we have a government for, by and with the people, then we should not work for the capitalists, but capitalism should be a means to serve ourselves, the majority of the people. Expand the public sector now!
Of course it is!
In fact, I would venture to say that a large and well-functioning public sector acts as a good hedge against deep recessions and various financial crashes! The fact that Sweden was not affected at all to the same extent as the rest of the world by the crash in 2008 was largely due to the public sector. But we will never hear this from Anders Borg!
