It is probably mostly on the surface that the Paris attacks were motivated by the satirical cartoons. The satirical cartoons were the icing on the cake. The West has supported and supports horrible dictatorships in, among other things Muslim countries because dictatorships are considered more reliable companions than democracies. After all, democracies change leadership from time to time. The West invaded Iraq despite knowing that there were no weapons of mass destruction there. And they did it in the most violent way. Add the torture at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. The West created religious contradictions in Iraq that did not exist in the country before the invasion. IS/ISIS was created out of the invasion of Iraq. When we hunt al-Qaeda, we use drones that kill scores of innocents as collateral damage. Moreover, al-Qaeda was created by the United States when it supported the Afghan resistance against the Russians. In the fight against Syria's dictator, the West also supports various jihadist revolutionary groups. The situation in Palestine bordering on genocide particularly upsets Muslims all over the world. We are sucking out the third world through slave-like wages and working conditions. The Paris attacks were still horrible and the three terrorists deserved every punishment.. I just think that the Paris attacks probably would not have taken place if the Muslims were only subjected to satire but all the oppression the West supported against e.g. Muslim countries.
Terrorists must be neutralized by any means possible.
However, we only defeat terrorism with international and national justice social structures.

I agree with you one hundred percent. My own thoughts these days have leaned in that direction and it was wonderful to see them in print by reading both your text and Åsa Linderborg's. Bravo!
