JEFTA is one new trade agreement between the EU and Japan. Like TTIP, private arbitration courts are included where companies can sue states for policy decisions that could threaten their profits. If a company is unhappy with a policy decision, they can simply go to court. Without there being any public transparency.
It is serious when companies try to set the framework for democracy. Democracy must set the rules for the market. Not the other way around. Trade agreements between countries should be democratically anchored, transparent and fair to all parties.
The shift has just now a campaign to stop JEFTA. The newspaper ETC writes more about the agreement here. Greenpeace has published here leaked documents from the agreement.
Together we are strong! Now we stop JEFTA and create a slightly better world.
