High wages increase purchasing power. It increases turnover rate, velocity. Reduced wages for one group tend to lead to reduced wages for another. A downward spiral with a deteriorating social economy in the bargain. But the Liberals don't want to know that. New arrivals in particular must live on significantly lower wages than others. Think the (New) Liberals.
In Sweden have we a so-called use value system to guarantee reasonable rents. The Liberals want to remove that. Jan Björklund refers to other countries such as Great Britain, where rents are often twice as high and the standard considerably lower. The Liberals are opening up for a usury market.

The tenant association writes about the use value system:
"There must be equal rents for equivalent housing. Therefore, the rent is determined based on something called the use value system. The utility value system means that the rent is based on the apartment's standard, quality and service. /…/ Equally important is that the rent does not skyrocket. One of our goals is that rents should be in reasonable proportion to household incomes. Nor should the rents increase more than other prices in society."
Is it longer possible to talk about the Liberals as a social liberal party? We answer no to that question. The Liberals want to compromise with central elements of the Swedish welfare model: salaries and rents. Vänsterpartiet, The Social Democrats and The Green Party instead wants to develop and strengthen the right to rent.
Do you want to do something to the matter? You can get involved in The tenants' association or in any of the above lots. Also The network for common welfare pushes the issue of more tenancies with a good standard at reasonable rents.
