The winner of the Alfred Nobel Prize in Economics , Joseph Stiglitz, is very critical of the TTIP trade agreement. TTIP is not about harmonizing and reducing tariffs, Stiglitz says. Tariffs are already low and many agreements are in place. It is rather about removing democratic regulations from the market. This is done via the so-called investor protection system ISDS.
In the long run, TTIP is about putting the market before the economy. The question becomes: Should the majority of the people or large corporations rule society?
