Environmentalists understand the challenge the world faces from all emissions. But sometimes I think that the environmental movement is dominated by people who want to return to a hard and barren pre-technological existence. Believe me that existence was so harsh that we got robber barons to get people to go to their hard, physical jobs on the farms, in the mines, in the quarries, etc. And then you were even more dependent on burning fossil fuels like coal and wood for to keep warm and cook.
Now the red-green majority in Gothenburg is proposing to convert an important connecting link (Dag Hammarsköldsleden) into a boulevard to reduce traffic.
But motoring does not need to be reduced. It is the engine of our economy. It is the basis of employment and tax revenue-generating profits.
Yes, it spews out fossil fuels, but then research environmentally friendly, renewable fuels instead. Hydrogen created from solar, wind and water energy is a possible solution. Electric car batteries are also developing at an incredibly rapid pace.
Owning a car is incredibly liberating and convenient. It's the dream many of us grew up with. Work, and you can buy a car. Buying furniture, moving to a new home or buying bulk at the grocery store, how much fun is it with public transport?
And even if we reduce motoring, do you think that flights will disappear or trucking?
The solution is environmentally friendly fuels.
And as for source sorting. People can barely work and take care of their families. And so will they be able to source sorting as well? The solution is simple, in front of source sorting factories! It increases employment and gives freedom and convenience to the collective.
Furthermore, much of the work in the source sorting factories could certainly already be automated today so that it would not be so disgusting for those who worked there. And more will be able to be automated over time.
Meat production is considered an environmental problem, but the technology is already far advanced to be able to start growing pieces of meat in the lab. Then the animals need neither be slaughtered nor release methane gas.
Why doesn't the environmental movement come up with solutions like this? I do not know. But the environmentalists need to pursue a climate policy that is smart and convenient while also solving the emissions problem. Solutions always exist. Let the creativity flow!
