Of course, it is important not to demonize any political movement, including far-right groups. But to help more extreme right-wing politics by inviting disaffected parties on the far right as The Economist advocates 2023-09-14 in the leader "The EU's liberals need better ways to deal with populists” solves nothing. Too often, the right-wing extremists are in favor of austerity policies. And austerity policies are what created that Europe's many crises today since the 1970s.
Harder to get a good life
It is important to recognize that austerity policies, which have been dominant since the 1970s, have led to difficulties in getting and holding jobs and low wages for many workers and white-collar workers. In Sweden, this problem has been exacerbated by cuts in unemployment insurance, health insurance, sickness benefits and retirement pensions. Instead of continuing this austerity policy, we need to invest in welfare, equality and an effective green transition to save the environment and biodiversity.
MMT can save the climate and all the world's people
The economics books "The deficit myth” by Stephanie Kelton and “The entrepreneurial state” by Mariana Mazzucato shows that it is possible to finance and implement such ventures. By creating a world of more self-sufficient states with Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) can we cooperate peacefully and fairly to save the global south from climate disasters, war and famine. This would reduce the need for mass immigration to Europe.
At the same time, it is important to point out that immigration can be enriching for Europe. According to researchers such as Peo Hansen, author of the book "The migration myth”, immigration can contribute to economic growth. Low-paying jobs often produce more real value than high-paying jobs that only produce paper, ideas, thoughts, calculations, etc. Of course, both are needed, but staring blindly at high tax payments blinds us to what is really wealth-productivity. Then the immigrants' need for subsidies and housing means that they buy more. Then the companies' production and tax payments will start again. The migration challenge is instead a matter of managing immigration in a way that promotes integration and employment for everyone, including the natives.
We need progressive taxes and government deficits
To finance these investments and create a fair world for everyone is progressive taxes and government deficits necessary tools. By redistributing resources and investing in people and the environment, we can create a better future for the broad masses and at the same time reduce tensions and extremism in society. It is time for the politicians to listen to the citizens and act in accordance with their real needs and wishes.
Help Katalys save democracy and equality
The trade union institute Katalys writes very insightful texts and reports on working conditions, equality, democracy and a sustainable economy as well as nature's conditions. Katalys is preparing a counterattack against SD and Tidölaget's frontal attack on the pillars of democracy. The pillars of support are trade unions, public education and the freedom of the mass media.
Katalys maps and informs about the far-right's attacks on democracy and welfare. This trade union institute needs your help to resist the Tidölaget's attack. Right-wing think tanks have significantly more money than the labor movement. But if many contribute a penny, Katalys can put an end to these changes. Catalysis can take the lead, raise self-confidence and the will to fight in the labor movement.
Help Katalys defend democracy by making a contribution. Every little penny counts, and if we take the fight together, the right will fail. Can you give something to Katalys?
